Governor Alex Otti has commenced the comprehensive upgrade of Aba’s long-abandoned Enyimba Hotel, now renamed the Radisson Blu Enyimba International Hotel, in a bold move aimed at restoring the city’s status as a leading commercial and industrial hub in West Africa.
The project, being executed in partnership with global hospitality brand Radisson Blu, is designed to transform the once-moribund facility into a world-class, multi-star hotel that will meet international standards and attract investors, tourists and business travelers to Abia State.
Located in the commercial city of Aba, the Enyimba Hotel was originally conceived as a flagship hospitality project but had remained abandoned for years, becoming a symbol of stalled development.
Governor Otti’s administration has now revived the project as part of its broader economic rejuvenation agenda.
Speaking on the redevelopment, state officials said the upgraded Radisson Blu Enyimba International Hotel will feature luxury rooms and suites, conference and exhibition halls, fine dining restaurants, recreational facilities, a wellness and fitness centre, swimming pools, and modern security infrastructure.
The facility is also expected to serve as a venue for international business summits, trade fairs and cultural events.
The state government noted that the project is projected to generate over 5,500 direct and indirect jobs across construction, hospitality, tourism, logistics, and allied services.
It is also expected to significantly boost local content participation by engaging artisans, contractors, suppliers and small businesses within Aba and its environs.
According to government sources, the redevelopment aligns with the administration’s strategic vision of repositioning Aba as an investment destination by strengthening critical infrastructure, improving ease of doing business, and enhancing urban renewal initiatives.
The hospitality project complements ongoing road rehabilitation, market modernization and power supply improvements in the city.
Economic analysts say the revival of the hotel under a globally recognized brand like Radisson Blu will not only enhance investor confidence but also increase internally generated revenue (IGR) for Abia State through taxes, tourism receipts and expanded commercial activities.
Residents and business leaders in Aba have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a long-overdue intervention that will change the narrative of abandoned public assets in the state.
They expressed optimism that the project will stimulate the local economy, encourage diaspora investment and create sustainable employment opportunities for youths.
The Radisson Blu Enyimba International Hotel is expected to position Aba as a preferred destination for regional conferences and international business engagements, reinforcing its historical reputation as the “Japan of Africa” due to its vibrant manufacturing and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
With the redevelopment now underway, the Abia State Government says it remains committed to delivering projects that drive economic growth, restore public confidence and place the state firmly on the path of sustainable development.
